A special book has been launched as the final activity in a year of celebrations to mark the 700th anniversary of the arrival of the Burnett of Leys family on Deeside.
Burnett of Leys, 700 Years on Royal Deeside, is a pictorial account of the story of the Burnett of Leys family since its arrival in Crathes in 1323.
A unique collection of photographs, including many from the family’s own personal albums, the book gives a behind the scenes insight into family life on Leys Estate complementing the many publications which depict the history of Crathes Castle and Burnett ancestry.
A special chapter is dedicated to Burnett Gatherings at Crathes and across the globe over the years, sharing special memories from croquet matches to ceilidhs, visits to the Loch of Leys and Aboyne Games as well as memories from the 2023 Crathes Gathering.
Readers can also bring a flavour of Crathes to their own kitchens by following the family’s recipe for Gorse Flower Ice Cream.
The book also celebrates the wonderful people, buildings, businesses, countryside and events that combine to make Leys Estate what it is today.
